Round 4 of the T20 season saw the Cavs take on Columbia CC at Mark Twain. We won the toss and elected to bat with debutant Matt Parker opening with Kieran Bligh. After many a swing and miss- Kieran departed for 9 off 13, soon followed by Skipper James (0) and Paul Woolf (0). Kushal steadied the ship with Matt and the pair put on an 81 run partnership before Matt was dismissed for a well made 56. With the score at a healthy 5-119 with 5 overs to go, quick runs were sought, and James’s leadership was tested by President Sebastian demanding he bat as he would score quickly. Needless to say, Sebs 7 off 13 balls was not what the Cavs were looking for, but thankfully we had Kushal (60 not out) who helped get the score to a competitive 5/153 after our allotted 20 overs.
With a depleted bowling attack due to availably, we started off well with Seb taking a wicket in the first over, however it was mostly downhill from there. Extras were our own worst enemy (39 wides!), and in desperate times even James had to bowl some of his left arm pies. Steady runs saw Columbia CC get the win comfortably in the end 5 wickets down and 2 overs to spare. Best figures for the Cavs was Ayaz Ahmed who fought well to finish with 3 overs 1/23.
We will look to bounce back next week!
