The Cavaliers were back in Laurel for their round 5 matchup against Khyber. We bowled first, and the opposition got a good start with Toqeer (0/36) and Cal (0/36) unable to get an early breakthrough. Wickets were hard to come by and although Waleed Karimullah (0/21) bowled economically he too couldn’t find a wicket. The batsman were hungry for runs, so the Skipper decided to put himself on for a bowl and see if he could temp them with any of his slow left arm pies. To everyone’s amazement, they fell for it, with James claiming the best figures for the day taking 5/22 off his 4 overs. Extras were again an issue (4 no balls, 32 wides!), allowing Khyber to post 8/155 after their 20 overs.
The less said about our batting the better, with Bevan and Baber deciding not to communicate anything to each other, which saw Baber out for a diamond duck. Speaking of ducks, it was a rare day for our feathered friends, with Sebastian (again promoting himself up the batting order when James was out at square leg) being run out for a diamond duck and Jimmy Delaney collecting a golden duck (TFC). Interestingly for the first time since July 2017, Callum Mckern DIDN’T get a duck or an LBW- instead collecting a single run before being dismissed. The only real contributors with the bat was Alan Dixon (18) and Sai Chinnaswamy (8*). It was over quickly as we were all out for 70 after 14.2 overs.
A poor performance meaning we now sit at 2 wins 2 losses and just outside of the playoffs on the ladder. A big game needed next week.
