Southern Cavaliers Cricket Club 1st XI v Bangladesh Cricket Club on Sat 04 Jun 2016 at 11:00 AM
Southern Cavaliers Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report The Southern Cavaliers bid to return to a second-straight WMCB 40-over final began in solid fashion Saturday with an easier-than-the-scoreboard-suggests win over Bangladesh CC. On a Laurel 2 wicket that remains a work in progress, the Cavaliers rolled Bangladesh for 74, achieving the run chase with four wickets to spare after a collapse with the total in sight.

Batting first after winning the toss, Bangladesh lost wickets at regular intervals and never seriously threatened to compile a competitive total. Playing his last game for the club for the foreseeable future, Anmol Anand opened the bowling with Jay Khan and the pair quickly reduced the opposition to 20 for 4, with Sebastian Walker starring with three catches. Bangladesh fought hard to get to add 29 for the fifth wicket but the leg-spin of Kushal Reddy and Thilina Silva wrapped up the innings smartly. Reddy took three wickets in a man-of-the-match performance, while Anand and Khan both finished with two and Silva took one.

Chasing a small total, and on a wicket that was only deteriorating, openers Abdul Nissar and Neil Hickey batted responsibly for an opening stand of 52, aided by an avalanche of extras, before Nissar was caught at long on for a game-high score of 29. That sparked a mini-collapse, with Anand, promoted to number three, falling for a duck, Walker for 1, Hickey for a patient 9, Adrian Van Wyk for 2 and debutante Andrew Leong for a duck. However, Finton Sugumar continued his good form to end with 6 not out to ensure a perfect start to the 40-over season.
